What is your check in/check out times?

For our South Dakota cabins- Your home will be available for check in at 4:00 p.m and check out time is 10:00 a.m. For our Oklahoma cabin- Your home will be available for check in at 4:00 p.m and check out time is 11:00 a.m.

What happens at checkout?

We ask that you dispose of all garbage in the garbage bins at the end of the driveway. Please load and start the dishwasher. It is not required, but very much appreciated if you can start a load of towels before you leave.

We do have some pet-friendly homes. Please make sure that you clean up after your pet in and around your home and dispose of the waste properly. Any and all damage caused and the resulting charges, i.e. carpet stains, wall damage, pet hair removal, etc will be the responsibility of the guest.

Are four wheel drive vehicles required?

Many of our vacation homes can be accessed in the winter with just front-wheel drive, but we highly recommend 4-wheel drive, anytime you are in the Black Hills, during the winter months.

Beds were comfy and there were all the pillows you could ask for. Jim was extremely proactive asking if there was anything he could do for us. Responded to any questions I had quickly. This place was beautiful and perfect for a big family group! There were lots of activities to do, especially in the game room, which everyone enjoyed. The living room was so cozy and a great place for the whole family to spend time together. The rooms were very comfortable, and the main bedroom with the jacuzzi was perfect, especially for the little kids to enjoy. The hot tub was great too! We loved staying here! We were with just one other couple, but we could easily have had more people. The upstairs was perfect for a little more separation and they liked having their own private area. The house was very well taken care of and super clean. We cooked several times in the kitchen and wanted for nothing in the way of appliances or utensils. We loved starting the day on the front deck watching the parade of turkeys and deer. The neighborhood was quiet and safe feeling. We come out to the Hills usually at least 1 time a year and have never stayed right in Lead. We really enjoyed the town, it is quite charming. We absolutely loved this Mountain View retreat! It was in a very convenient location to Lead, Deadwood, Spearfish, and Sturgis. It was also very drivable to Custer State Park and Mount Rushmore. Talk about great place! We had 5 couples with 5 trucks pulling large trainer's for our side by sides. I was looking for a place that would accommodate all of us and our rigs. The pictures and arial views were a great help. I also messaged Jim about the parking and he responded right away. He said we could park 2 semi trucks and he is right! The tip of stopping in Lead to go to Lynn's Dakota mart beforehand was smart. The store had everything you may need. This is a great 5 bedroom house. The kitchen has everything and more, which is discussed in the info on the site. We had 10 of us, and were able to sit everyone for meals. The location is very easy to get to and close to the start of many trails. A truly memorable experience! Thank you Jim for all your help and quick response. You were a wonderful host.

We had the most wonderful stay at the Buffalo Trail Cabin! From the moment we walked in, we were blown away by how cozy, spotlessly clean, and well-equipped it was. The host truly thought of everything—the kitchen had every single amenity we could possibly need, and there were plenty of extra towels and cozy blankets to make us feel right at home. The basement was an absolute paradise for the kids—it felt like a hidden cove of fun packed with games that kept them entertained for hours! The location in Lead could not be better. We can't say enough about how amazing this place is! We had 6 adults and 2 babies and we could have had another couple! It was so beautiful, had great games, the atmosphere on the patio is so peaceful. Also one of our kids forgot the bassinet for their baby and a high chair and guess what, there was both in the closet!! So we had everything we needed. Beautifully decorated, great pots and pans. We cooked quite a bit there and never did I not have what I needed. We would definitely stay again. And Jim was awesome, I reached out and asked if it was possible to get in a little early so we could decorate for my daughters birthday and he was happy to oblige. GREAT PLACE!

Our entire family came to the Black Hills for vacation, and Jim’s house was the perfect home base for all of our adventures! The location was ideal—close enough to town and everything we wanted to do, while still being far enough away from the hustle and bustle. With 7 adults and 5 young kids, we had plenty of space to spread out, relax, and enjoy time together. The air hockey table was easily the highlight of our evenings and made for some pretty competitive family fun! This area is beautiful, this place was overall amazing. Bedrooms, bathrooms, kitchen, common spaces, decks all wonderful to enjoy. We rode our Harleys to enjoy Sturgis for the week, unfortunately we did not realize this cabin was situated on a gravel rode. When choosing a place to stay for Sturgis a hot tub is a must and one of the reasons we chose this cabin, this hot tub was small, especially for a house that accomodates 12. The jets were mediocre, it's situated on the edge of a drop off, not level and could have been cleaner.

We had a beautiful stay at the cabin during the rally. It was clean and ready for us, even had homemade cookies waiting for us. Plenty of room for our bikes and trailer. Communication was great! We used the hot tub everyday Our grandkids loved the fire pit and playground. The creek was also a plus for the grandkids to walk in and play. We had a wonderful stay and would absolutely recommend this cabin! It was the perfect space for our large group, with plenty of room for both the kids and adults to spread out and enjoy themselves. The many amenities made our stay even better, and we made so many great memories here. Our only suggestion would be adding shades to the upper windows in the living and dining room. They let in quite a bit of heat during the day, and in the evening the sun was directly in our eyes, making it difficult to sit comfortably in those areas. Overall, it was an excellent stay, and we highly recommend it to anyone looking for a spacious, well-equipped place to stay!

We loved the cabin. It was a perfect size for our extended family vacation. It handled our family with three couples and three teenagers very nicely. It was an easy drive to the main drag in Hochatown to all the places. The cabin was private and felt very secluded. Even though it was near other cabins, there was enough woods in between so you couldn't even see them. We loved drinking our morning coffee on the porch and watching the deer. It came well stocked and the beds were very comfortable. The living space, loft, bedrooms, kitchen, and porches left enough room for everyone to spread out. We used the hot tub and gas grill with ease. Jim was a very responsive and down to earth host. He was a quick text away for anything we needed or had a question about. I appreciated that I was working directly with the owner and not a property management company. We will definitely consider this cabin again for our annual trip to BB! It was just perfect.

So I have to tell you, myself and my family were absolutely blown away about Jim's place. We loved the place and how clean and homie the place was. First of all, the view was so beautiful. When we got there it wasn't even 1 hour and deer were in the backyard, the kids were so excited to see deer so close. We loved the downstairs game room, and we played for hours. The bedrooms were so perfect and the kitchen was perfect to eat at Jim's lovely home. Not only did it save us money, but the best part was us spending time together as a family, cooking and creating memories. A great family game night outside by the fire was a new experiencewe got to share together, and we had the time of our lives. The spa was another great activity for our family nights and looking out at the view. All around, the experiences we shared together as a family here were unlike any other. We had an incredible stay at Buffalo Trail Cabin and can't recommend it enough!! Don't hesitate to book!! Upon arrival, we walked in and were greeted with a dozen delicious cookies - a thoughtful touch and a perfect welcome. The cabin was spotlessly clean and beautifully decorated with a fireplace that created a cozy warm atmosphere. Our host, Jim, was great to work with and made sure we had everything we needed. The hot tub was a fantastic way to relax after a day of hiking and exploring! The location is also perfect, conveniently situated near incredible sites like Badlands National Park, Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse, and the fun town of Deadwood. Even when the weather didn’t cooperate and we had a snowy, rainy day, we had an absolute blast! We had a group of 9 adults and 1 child stay at Whitetail Lodge. Overall, the lodge was very clean and easy to access. The linens were fresh and clean, and the bathrooms were exceptionally clean as well. The host did a great job communicating with us throughout our stay and always checked in to make sure we were comfortable. It was also very easy to find and get into the property. The only downside for our group was the hot water supply in the showers. With the number of people staying in the house, the hot water didn’t last very long. Also, if you’re planning to ride ATV trails frequently, just know the lodge is a bit of a jaunt from the main ATV trail access. Overall, we had a good stay and appreciated the cleanliness, communication, and convenience of the property.

I rented this cabin for a relaxing, kid-free, girls weekend and it did not disappoint. We each had our own space to feel at home in. After a long day of travel, the hot tub was was the perfect ending to our day as the snow began to fall. As it snowed most of of our stay, the fire pit and hot tub were wonderful amenities that allowed us to still enjoy outside time. They had a fully stocked kitchen which made it easy to prepare meals when we decided on staying in. The host checked-in to ensure our needs were met and the check-out instructions were clear and easy to do. This is a great family-friendly cabin that is suitable for all types of getaways. 5 stars! We book this house for a bachelorette trip and it was perfect. 3 showers, lots of beds, couch comfortably sits 5-6 people. The girls wanted me to be sure to include how COMFY the beds were. We had the best few days at this cabin in the Black Hills. The views of the sunset were beautiful each night sitting on the porch, the house was so clean and spacious for our family of 7 (ages 15-4). Jim’s vacation home is fabulous. I am super picky when it comes to cleanliness and it met all my expectations! We came to ski but ended up taking UTV’s through the mountains because of Jim’s recommendation! It was so fun and the kids loved it as well! The property is immersed in the heart of tall evergreen and lots of wildlife. We seen deer feeding every morning and night as we sat in the hot tub! This was a great house! I've stayed in multiple vrbo homes, and this is the greatest one I've had the pleasure of booking. This house had more than enough ammenities. There were plenty of kitchen items for cooking, items for young children, and lots of space.Jim was a great host! He checked in multiple times during our stay, and allowed us to check in early. As most houses in this area have steeper driveways, it can get a bit icy during the winter months. This vrbo had a large supply of ice melt on the property and checked in with his snow workers to try to decrease the ice in the driveway. I would gladly stay here again!

Jim was amazing and very responsive anytime we needed anything. On the morning of checkout, we unfortunately had car trouble and, because of the ice, we couldn’t find a tow truck. We ended up staying well past checkout and didn’t leave until the afternoon. Jim was incredibly understanding and gracious, allowing us extra time without hesitation, which meant so much to us during a stressful situation. That level of care and hospitality truly goes above and beyond. We’re so grateful for everything and would 100% stay here again. We enjoyed Buffalo Trail Cabin. In the dark it was extremely hard to find, as the map location does not match the actual address. However, in the light you’re able to see the number of the home and the sign. The stairs to enter the home are steeper than expected. Otherwise it is as described and was a beautiful getaway. We stayed here for a small bachelor party as we wanted to go to deadweird in deadwood. Hot tub was amazing! The beds were really comfortable we had no complaints on sleep. There was everything you needed in kitchen along with extras like seasonings and coffee. We really couldn’t complain it was definitely peaceful and high up. Quiet roads. You can hear the people working in the gold mine near by at night but it was very interesting to look up what’s going on there. You are very close to a lot of things and if you don’t wanna leave you have everything like you’re at home right there with you. I would stay here every time I come. Hosts were very helpful from the moment I booked to the time we left. They deserve 5 stars they put in the work. I would recommend this to family or groups of friends looking for a good getaway. We enjoyed it so much thanks guys we will be back!

Buffalo Trail Cabin is so beautiful and they have truly thought of everything to make your stay perfect. The mattresses are a luxury experience. The cabin is so clean and well stocked and the complimentary cookies are not to be missed, soft and buttery and craveable. The hot tub was full, clean, hot, and such a treat on the morning we woke up to a skiff of snow. There are abundant fluffy towels, the fridge has a full ice maker, the smart tv is ready for you to login to your streaming services. It is so peaceful. It was just what we needed to reset, recharge, reconnect with each other and enjoy all the Black Hills has to offer.

This is a gem! My boyfriend meet his North Dakotan friends in Deadwood 5 years ago. This trip was partially a Friendiversary! We're already talking about planning another trip and hopefully coming back to Jim and Julie's place. It was literally home away from home. Anything you forgot to pack, it was possibly stocked. Coffee maker, Kueurig pod/pot combo, laundry soap (we left some behind wasn't sure how it might do in the airplane), plenty of seats outside, small gas firepit outside. Don't bring wood you can't burn it. There was a small fireplace inside, the view around us was lovely, deer said good morning and good night, chipmunks crawled on a porch, heard sandhill cranes flying over. If you want to hide you can here, if you want to hike you can do that too. If you want to gamble run to Deadwood. We loved our stay Jim was great, very gracious host and easy to communicate with. Julie's cookies were de-lish! Thanks for everything Jim and Julie. Can't wait to come again next year.

Jim’s place is very deserving of a 5-star review!! We took the family (6 adults & 3 kids) for a weekend and everyone thoroughly enjoyed their stay. The beautiful cabin is everything the listing describes plus some. The cabin was very clean, fully stocked, roomy and very comfortable! The kids enjoyed the game room, running around in the big yard and playing on the playground. The cabin sits at the end of the road and far enough back we were comfortable with the kids playing outside without constant supervision. The adults enjoyed the big porch, outdoor living room, the hot tub and fire pit. Jim was very responsive to texts and kept in touch throughout our stay. He would text every day to be sure our stay was everything we had hoped for. We text him about an issue with the kitchen faucet and he offered to send someone the next day to get it fixed. Top notch host! Bonus points for having a dozen white chocolate macadamia nut cookies waiting for us! Highly recommend this gorgeous cabin!!

Of all the cabins we have stayed at in Hochatown, this was by far the best one! It is exactly as shown in the images and description. I loved the seclusion most of all! Being at the end of the road, there was no road sound from vehicles. We were surrounded by woods and encountered so many deer during our stay. They even walked right next to us as we were at the fire pit, coming about 15’ to us! We enjoyed the outdoor amenities the most, but inside the cabin was just as comfortable with multiple activities for a rainy day. Jim was quick to respond to a handful of questions I had and was incredibly gracious. I would recommend booking as soon as you come across the Lazy Horse Lodge so you don’t miss out on a wonderful vacation!

This cabin was spacious, beautiful, and comfortable. We noticed as soon as we walked in that it smelled wonderful, was very clean and was decorated with some character. We stayed with a few families and were able to gather when we wanted to and could separate when we needed a break. The decks offered a great chance to enjoy the Mountain View. It is also located in the middle of the sights (all about an hour away), offering beautiful scenic drives to get there. Lead is a beautiful mining town and the cabin is located just past a gold mine which offers stunning look outs over the operation. It is also moments away from one of the ski hills.

The home itself was spotless and beautifully decorated, with all the amenities one could need. The kitchen was fully equipped, making it easy to prepare meals. The beds were incredibly comfortable, and the living area was cozy, perfect for relaxing after a day of adventure. I especially loved the outdoor space—waking up with a cup of coffee on the deck surrounded by nature was simply delightful! Great for motorcycle riders as the garage kept our cycles safe at night. Lazy Horse lodge was beautiful and relaxing for a weekend getaway with the family. The house is beautiful and cozy. There are so many options for activities on the property you don't have to leave the house. Arcade games, horse shoes, corn hole, shuffle board.
